Be prepared…supplies, homework, classwork, composition notebooks; bring them to every class every day.

Keep your belongings organized and in your own space.

Do not leave personal items in your desk, especially anything you don’t want to lose.

Try your hardest; participate, ask questions, ask for help, finish your assignments on time and turn them in when asked.

Need something? Just ask! There are no dumb questions! Be the brave student who asks the questions other students are afraid to ask!

Mrs. Emanuel is at Otter River Elementary every morning, Monday through Friday from 7:20-9:45.
From 10:05-3:00, she is at FES.

Creative thinking is fostered at both schools through a variety of instructional units and activities. In the fall of 2015, students are working on becoming creative thinkers who invent devices to make life easier. Here is an example of an Inventor's Kit; yours will probably be different. ;-) Work Tools from home (such as screwdrivers, awls, files, plyers, wire cutters, etc.) must come with the owner's name attached, and will be returned at the end of the year. ALL TOOLS will be kept separate from supplies and may be used upon request of Mrs. Emanuel. Students must be trained in the proper use of tools before permission for use is granted.

Make a Young Inventor's Kit - for my biggest kid who wants to be an Inventor when he grows up :-)

. ORES students will participate in a mini-classroom economy where students will design products, bring them to production, then sell them in a Mock Market Place.

In addition to creative and inventive work, 4th and 5th graders at ORES will receive weekly grades for written work completed in class or at home. These will be added to their Power School Reading and Language grades.

5th Graders at FES receive Advanced Writing instruction during TAG time, resulting in graded assignments added to Power School under the Language category. Students will complete assignments for homework.

What is TAG?  It is an acronym standing for 'Talented and Gifted'. An old name students have used in BCPS, TAG refers to the Gifted Education Services provided for students who need a challenge beyond the Standards of Learning.

The term, 'TAG' should not be a label to exclude others, but rather should be a reminder that, "to whom much is given, mush is expected."
