Counselor - Mrs. Lyle

Hello Otter River Families!

My name is Bethany Lyle and I am starting my fourth year as the school counselor here at ORES.  My goal is to serve students’ emotional, developmental, and academic needs through a developmental and prevention-based counseling program so that all our students can achieve success in school and beyond.

One of my core beliefs is that all children are capable of positive and transformative growth.  As a school counselor, I am passionate about creating an emotionally-safe, solution-focused, and empowering atmosphere for all students so that they may grow to be empathetic, resilient, and responsible problem-solvers in their homes, school, and communities.  Throughout the school year, students will be exposed to a counseling curriculum focused on developing strong character and building healthy skill-sets through topics such as embracing a growth mindset, learning self-awareness and self-management, learning positive thinking skills and healthy calming strategies, respecting others and being kind, utilizing positive conflict resolution skills, making responsible choices, employing effective decision-making skills, and exploring careers and the world of work.  This curriculum is aligned with the Virginia Standards for School Counseling and ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors.

In addition to classroom lessons and school-wide initiatives, the ORES counseling program will offer support services to students including individual counseling, group counseling, parent/teacher consultation, and referral services.  I believe we can best meet student needs and encourage holistic and positive transformation through healthy collaborative efforts with parents, teachers, administrators, and school and community resources.  As partners in this endeavor, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time with your questions or concerns.  I can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 540-586-9210.

It's going to be an amazing school year!
